Here I Go Again

The roomie and I are watching the premiere of Stella on TV even though I had a sneak peek of the entire episode and watched it a few nights ago with the sir. Who else loved their dance montage as skunk people? At first I was a little skeptical about their randomness, bt now I'm absolutely digging the randomness of Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain.

Next Friday begins the internship over at FMQB. I'm going to be writing stories for the Music News section of their website. I'm stoked to get started, but not really looking forward to the commute.

And I'm most likely heading over to one of the FMQB boys' apartments for Live 8. Let me know if anyone else in the general tri-state area will be there on Saturday.

The Trial of the Century

I was about to jump in the shower to get ready for my amazing weekend when The French Kicks randomly started to play on my iTunes.

Now instead of packing and making myself pretty for tonight's dinner with the sir, I was frozen with nostalgia while listening to them.

Hearing them takes me back to the random time I saw them at CMJ last October. At that point in time things were so different.

It was before I decided to never come home again to South Jersey.
It was before I entered one of those relationships that for some reason change your life forever.
It was when I was still naive.
It was before the music industry really got ahold of me and took control.

Now there is no going back.

The French Kicks are on tour with the Get Up Kids right now. If they are coming to your town, please go out and support them. (by the way, it's the last and final tour for the Get Up Kids, so you better get your tickets now.)

Plenty To Do This Weekend

This weekend I will be doing the whole family thing. And not just my family this time. Saturday will be with my parents. Then Saturday night to visit the sir's family. Then off to the sir's family reunion for all of Sunday. Although I am looking forward to this weekend with the families, there are so many good shows I'll be missing out on. (NOTE: this means you go to them, and then tell me how they were.)

Binary Love

It's almost midnight. I should be sleeping, but my favorite music snob just shared the new Rakes with me. You must check them out. You can watch a link to one of their videos here.

Oh dear, this aural goodness will keep me up all night!

Reasons To Hate Tuesdays

Here is a list of my Top 30 Albums this week from the station: (with a some slight commentary added in)

1 BELLE AND SEBASTIAN - Push Barman To Open Old Wounds
How can you deny the goodness of Belle and Sebastian? That's right, you can't.

2 MAXIMO PARK - A Certain Trigger
These boys will definitely be a contender for my top-ten list of this year, no doubt about that.

3 EELS - Blinking Lights And Other Revelations
When I first listened to this album their song "Sweet Lil Thing" just stuck out in my mind. I made a mix for my favorite sir a few weeks back and I threw that song on because it's romantic in a kind of weirdo-hip way.

4 STEPHEN MALKMUS - Face The Truth
I know of way too many shitting on this album. Don't shit on Stephen Malkmus, it's like shitting on your face. Maybe I just have a never-ending love affair with Pavement, but alas I still give Mr. Malkmus the benefit of the doubt.

5 COLDPLAY - X And Y
The NY Times said they didn't like them, and now everyone just wants to shit on Coldplay. Well I never said I liked them from the beginning, so please don't say I'm just jumping on the bandwagon. I never was a huge fan and I'm still not.

6 DRESSY BESSY - Electrified
Cute, catchy melodies = everyone instantly likes at first listen unless they are boycotting girly singers.

7 FOUR TET - Everything Ecstatic
This album is absolutely orgasmic. I used to listen to
Kieran Hebden back when I was a freshman in college. I still listen. He still makes me smile.

8 RAVEONETTES - Pretty In Black

9 YOUTH GROUP - Skeleton Jar
I believe Chris Walla from DCFC said something along the lines of your heart being dead if you didn't love this album. I don't necessarily LOVE it, but I can't deny that it is comforting in a sort of Ben & Jerry's way after a bad break-up.

10 MARJORIE FAIR - Self Help Serenade

11 MARIA TAYLOR - 11:11
Duet with Conor Oberst, what?!?

12 WHITE STRIPES - Get Behind Me Satan
I'm still not a 100% fan of this entire album. Like a roller coaster, "Get Behind Me Satan" has its ups and downs. Unfortunately sometimes I feel it's totally about to run off its tracks.

13 SECRET MACHINES - The Road Leads Where It's Led
I saw them perform earlier in January down at the TLA and was not impressed. Yet everyone at Coachella was absolutely gushing over them. I listened to this EP and yes I will admit I started to gush blood like a knife jabbed into my eye.

14 REDWALLS - De Nova

15 TROUBLED HUBBLE - Making Beds In A Burning House

16 GORILLAZ - Demon Days

17 ENGINEERS - Engineers
I think everyone needs to check these kids out. They are currently opening for Bloc Party. I'm hoping all those hipsters will show up a little early and experience the dreamy indie goodness they create.

18 OF MONTREAL - The Sunlandic Twins

19 TEENAGE FANCLUB - Man-Made
Yum yum...I've been waiting for this. All the boys I tried to force feed this on when I got it pretended to not be interested. (I know deep down inside they want to let Teenage Fanclub into their hearts)

20 TSAR - Band-Girls-Money

21 PAUL WESTERBERG - Besterberg: The Best Of Paul Westerberg

22 OASIS - Don't Believe The Truth

23 ELECTRELANE - Axes

24 ORANGE PEELS - Circling The Sun
Who likes the Apples In Stereo or Camera Obscura? Then listen to this album, you don't know what you're missing out on.

25 SMALLSPACE - No Matter

26 LONGWAVE - There's A Fire

27 TURIN BRAKES - JackInABox

28 ATHLETE - Tourist

29 SPINTO BAND - Nice And Nicely Done
I'm told these boys are from my area. I <3 them.

30 FORECAST - Late Night Conversations

My Name Is Not Horatio

This weekend I went down to Jersey with my parents to attend a friend of the family's graduation party. These friends lived in the smallest town I have ever visited. I deemed it "Backwards Hick Town"

I ended up eating a bunch of crabs and rice with no hands and drinking a bunch of beer at the actual party. There's nothing like getting smashed with your Dad to end boredom at family functions.

He was shocked and sad to see me quit smoking. He tried to buy me a pack of smokes on the drive down to Jersey...I think he just needs someone to chat with while he puffs away like a chimney.

When I was about to get in my parent's car to get the hell outta Backwards Hell-Hole, the son of the family we were visting grabbed my arm. He told me that one day he was going to open up one of those music/pop-culture magazines (that we spent the weekend talking trash on)and that he was going to claim he knew me when I got famous. Psh, I wish.

Next week is the Get Up Kids and French Kicks show in Philly. Anyone going? I wouldn't mind seeing the French Kicks again. The last time I saw them was at CMJ and I was a little too intoxicated to remember how much I enjoyed them.

By the way, I've been listening to Tapes n' Tapes all freakin day....not that I'm complaining.

AND, new Minus the Bear album has totally been rocking my face off lately. (Thanks to the BF's crazy connections out there somewheres, most likely the West Coast.)

Home of the Riversharks

Things is been absolutely crazy lately. Last weekend's excursion to the Bronx resulted in us missing the Wrens. Yet a friend informed singer Charles that I managed to miss their set, and he emailed me a apology. I'm thinking about heading down to Atlanta in August for Clermont's big weekend and the Wrens will be there playing a set, so all is not lost.

Aside from working my sucky cubicle job every weekday from 9am - 5pm, I've been actually going to the gym, cleaning my radio office, help setting up the new operating system in the station and not seeing anyone.

Speaking of my office job, apparently I'm a little too eccentric at times for the co-workers. Perhaps someone should make up a new rules of conduct for a classy girl as myself:

1. Do not copy the subject lines of Cialis commercials onto post-it notes and hang them around the office.
Apparently my co-workers don't appreciate post-it notes saying "It's not working like it used to?" and "Don't be the little guy in the club" hanging from their cubicles when they walk in every morning.

2. It is unacceptable to listen to your iPod when you work at any point during the day. For god's sake, do not sing when you are filing.
Even though I think that Art Brut is the best thing since sliced bread, no one in the office shares my love for bands from across the sea. They also do not find the humor in me singing along "I've seen her naked- twice!" (I suggest everyone go listen to "Good Weekend" by Art Brut...so fucking good, just don't sing along or else boss man will be angered.)

3. Do not break the dress code. You will be reprimanded.
I guess this morning my Merge Records pin was the straw that broke the camel's back. I'll wear jean jackets with my business casual if I feel like it! And I'll wear pins on my lapel if I damn please....unless boss man threatens to fire me again.

4. Keep you voice to a low level, others are trying to work around you.
This morning there was a huge bug walking around the office. It got closer and closer to my $2 vintage purse while I sipped my coffee. I tried to be quiet...I really did, but I finally exploded and yelled "You! Get the hell away from my purse!" (No one fucking messes with my vintage plastic purse unless they want to be squashed by my stiletto.)

This Saturday is the Spoon show. I'm way too excited for my own good. I suggest all of you in the general area come check them out. The new album is definitely one of my favorites of the year.

Speaking of new albums, I've recently been rocking out to the new Coldplay, Xiu Xiu, Sons and Daughters, Duke Spirit, The Mae Shi and Belle and Sebastian. My ears have been happy lately. Now I just need to work on making my tummy happy. Ever since I decided to work on my housewife skills, my belly has been angered by my cooking artforms.
