Let the Good Times Roll

So my homeless session is now over. 2 weeks of crashing on random floors, couches, and the radio station have caused me to be quite grateful of my ultra-comfy bed in my house. My deepest gratitude goes out to everyone that said a kind word, offered me their couch, lent me a space heater, fed me, etc.

Here's a pic I just found from my winter break. For all you of you wondering, no I didn't spend my entire winter break roaming the streets of PA...I did return home for a short period of time to visit the parentals and to catch up with some old friends. I grew up with these girls in this pic, and no matter how much I hate South Jersey, these people always give me something to look forward to when I do venture back down there.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

Good news! My dorm will offically be open this Friday night! Hot damn!!! I'll finally have a place to sleep in legally again.

Last night I slept on my station manager's couch in the radio station. Surprisingly I slept really well. I only woke up once to answer the phone. There was a point in my life where I wouldn't be able to sleep anywhere except for my own bed. (Actually that was about a month ago.) And now suddenly things have changed.

I didn't notice this change until last night when I holed myself up in the station prepared to get some serious station work out of the way before the semester starts back up. When did it get to the point where I would sleep on random floors and the station and have it not bother me?

Last month I would have never guessed that my life would be the way it is right now. I had a home. I thought I had a relationship I was happy with. I thought I had certain friends I grew up with that I thought I could trust. And now it's like I'm all on my own. (Well me and my extremely huge space heater.)

Catch Me If You Can

Last night began week two of my homeless reign. "Hot Christine" is now "Homeless Christine" as the radio station dj's dubbed me.

So I was chilling in my room at around 12:30am feeling pretty badass for living illegally in the house I usually live in. I was rocking out with my station manager's space heater and eating an amazing chicken wrap from Bennigan's Restuarant.

Maybe it was the loud Kings of Leon or all the lights on in my room, but public safety definately came in to investigate. Instead of acting like a normal person and admitting my guiltiness, I shut off the lights, my computer screen, and cell phone to hide in my closet.

After hiding in my closet for about 20 minutes, I decided that enough was enough. From now on, I'll be sleeping in the radio station until school offically re-opens and I'm allowed back in my house legally.

The worst part of last night's fiasco didn't happen until this morning. It was 8:50 in the morning, and I had 10 minutes to return the big-ass space heater and get to work on time. Unfortunately everyone thought it would be a grand idea to be working on cleaning up the campus at that time.

Thus, I had to lug the space heater around the campus in front of public safety (my college's rent-a-cops) and the lawn workers. This might not seem like a big deal until you have to do it.

The most important thing to remember is confidence. You absolutely cannot walk across your college campus with a space heater looking guilty for illegally staying in your house.

First thing you must do is make sure you have some rockin' tunes to listen to. (This will drown out angry public safety officers trying to question you and your illegal space heater) I chose to listen to The Blood Brothers on my iPod, even though my friend Charles called them "hipster retards" last night.

Next, if you run into anyone along your trip you must make sure to make them feel like they are the ones doing something wrong. When they glance over at you like your crazy, you must give them a look like nowadays everyone is carrying around space heaters, like its the newest trend since trucker hats went out of style.

Most importantly, take the shortest route as possible. Yes, they were many who must have thought I was insane from walking out of the woods with space heater in tow, but they probably would have thought the same if they saw me walking in the middle of the road.

The great thing is when my boss asked why I was late, I told her I had to return a space heater back to my radio office. She didn't even question it.

Romantic Rights

Instead of being a miserable homeless girl, I decided to follow around the station's loud-rock boys' favorite band of the moment, All Else Failed. This meant that I traveled up and down the East Coast to their show for four nights straight.

Wednesday PA, Thursday MD, Friday DE and Saturday VA. I spent Saturday night and Sunday morning hanging around MD with the sir and his friend who I like to call Jesus.

As a result of following this boys all around the East Coast resulted in temporary homes, a new and exciting relationship with a sir I'm totally infatuated with, plenty of good times, and fucking amazing shows everynight. (So one of my newest obsessions is The Minor Times....everyone should listen to them and experience their amazingness.)

Perhaps this craziness is due to the lack of a home (or maybe just a lack of sleep.)

Home, Sweet Home

OK, so at the moment I'm homeless. To make a long story short, I didn't fill out the intent to stay forms properly and I got put in random room. Instead of staying in random room with random girl in a random house somewhere else on campus, I've decided to rough it for the next two weeks.

Yes I've spent the last two days completely freezing my ass off in my house where I usually stay. (The reason why I can't stay there is because there is no heat or hot water.) Yes I have taken it upon myself to crash on random floors, couches, bathtubs and even the radio station if necessary. Yes I am probably going to get deathly ill from being homeless, but if I survive I guess I'll have a funny story to tell.

Things You Learn From Being Homeless:

Always accept the kindness of strangers.
Last night I crashed at a friend's house who lives down the road from me. When his super-cute roommate offered me some of his soup I graciously accepted. Being homeless, you don't know when you're going to eat your next meal. And you better realize that you probably won't recieve too many meals from cute boys.

Clean laundry is a necessity.
When I have clean laundry that means I can wear more layers. When you might have to spend the night in an unheated room, so you don't sleep out in the rain, wearing two pairs of socks keeps the heat in...it really does, I swear.

Dance parties are a necessity.
I always had dance parties just for fun, but as a result of being homeless I now have dance parties to keep warm.

The radio station is more than just a station.
Your place of work, your favorite bathroom at school, the study lounges will all seem more valuable to you after you have no place to claim home for a few weeks. Yes you might have to sleep on the radio station floor, but at least its heated and at least you kind of feel safe there because only people with the key card access can get in.
